This week was much like many other weeks. I had to disconnect with someone on BBM because they of course made an half-ass conversation, and suddenly, they feel I should be obligated to give them money. It is a shame that Ghanian, and Nigerian scam artists are infecting such a good service. I wanted to get more work on my sites done than I did. It was just one of those weeks. On some other news, a rebate application for a set of wired headphones came through to the processing center. It took them a week to do it, but at least it is done. I should hopefully be able to get the rebate in the form of a prepaid debit card in about a week.
On some other news, I went to the Humane Society to get a 3 month supply of heartworm prevention medicine. For the two dogs, it would have cost about $35 (about $6/pill). However when I went in to buy, I was told I could only get one month since the dogs are due for a new test in the next month. That wouldn’t have been as much of an issue if the two pills cost a bit less than $20 (about $10/pill). Needless to say, I am going have a complaint when they go in for their annual check up. It would also seem as if the one credit card that I needed to use to pay for the medicine had a bad magnetic stripe which also meant that I had to request a new card. Since this is the card that my bills, and essentials goes on, it will also mean I will have to jump through hoops to change the numbers.

Not much happened today. I walked the dogs, and chatted with someone on Skype. I also watched a couple of videos, and rested with the flu that I have been fighting for it. Otherwise, things have been relatively quiet. I also chatted with people on BBM, and WhatsApp.
As for plans for tomorrow, not much is planned. I will have to make a phone call, and send a reminder SMS. Otherwise, things will be relatively quiet for my plans.
Not much happened today. I sent a couple of SMS messages. I also chatted with someone on BBM, although actually chatting with them was like pulling teeth. I did get a couple of new people to write too which should help consume some of my time.
As for plans for tomorrow, I will expect Andrea to put in some of the money she owes, and I will have to make a couple of phone calls. Otherwise, no real plans for the day. It will be much like any other day.
A few days ago, I got the BBM app from BlackBerry which is their secured, and private end to end messaging service. In reality, it has always been my favorite of mobile messaging services. Needless to say, since I haven’t had a BlackBerry device for 5 years or more, I obviously had no more BBM contacts.
So, with me receiving the BBM app, and being one of the people that pre-registered, and therefore received permission to use it first (the current wait list is dumb for BlackBerry), I had been trying to find more people to reach out with.

Yesterday evening, I downloaded and installed BBM on my Nexus 4-16 with Android 4.3. Since I signed up ahead of time, I was among the first to get to be in the system. And since everyone I’ve known has left Blackberry for Android or iOS, and only one person I know that has a Blackberry now, I decided to take that empty plunge into BBM.
The reason of why is one thing I hated of having to leave Blackberry was the fact I will not have BBM. While in my end days of Blackberry, I never communicated with anyone through BBM any more, I did like the program a lot for a number of reasons. First, it was quick and reliable. I sent SMS messages along with BBM messages, and was always confident that the BBM message will go through. Even just this past few months, I sent SMS to another person, and they informed me they never received it. With BBM, I never had such an issue. Second, BBM is private. Any app that demands to have my cellular phone number doesn’t become an option. Even programs like WhatsApp that lets me use my Google Voice number, the usage is a bit of hoop jumping. And many of the popular apps, they use the person’s phone number. When I signed up with BBM, and when I had a BlackBerry – I received an 8 digit hexadecimal number which is then used as my BBM number. Last, it is secured. It uses the Internet, but end to end encryption is to keep people from prying. I will only assume that this is applied to the Android/iOS app. This is why governments, and corporations liked Blackberry so much. And yes, it can be used for illegal uses such as drug transactions, but this can be applied to anything.

Today was a little bit of a busy day. I took the dogs for two walks today which they didn’t behave either one. I also had to go to the grocery store to get a couple of groceries, and dog food. While buying my dogs their food, I also bought a 20lb bag of food for Nippers (my brother’s family dog). I did a little more work on my a web site, and will be making a few adjustments.
And alas, after a month – Blackberry decided to release BBM for Android/iOS. However, registrations are being phased in. Those who already signed up for BBM notices will be allowed to sign up early. Not that anyone would care, my BBM PIN can be found on my Contact Directory’s IM page.

Blackberry promised BBM on Android on 2013-09-21, but hasn’t delivered. In turn, a slew of malware fakes have appeared in the Google Play Store. Blackberry claims the reason why it didn’t put the app in the Play Store was because an version that wasn’t ready was unleaked to the public, and they are making some improvements on the IM client. Meanwhile, a select number of iOS users (mostly in the east) have been able to receive it.
This to me raises a lot of serious issues for regards to Blackberry. Now, I have a sentimental fondness for Blackberry. My first smart phone was a Blackberry 8320, and while I had never really got to use BBM, I did like the concept with a couple of flaws such as the PIN (Personal ID Number) was hard coded into the device which meant if you changed your device, your PIN changes too. It would seem as if Blackberry has eliminated that flaw, and made it user credential based.

On October 7, there is supposed to be a new Blackberry Messenger with version 5.0. This messenger is supposed to have better support for avatars, and 6MB files. Also, contacts would be backed up on RIM servers, and there would be SMS integration which would lead me to believe that SMS would be going to the Blackberry Messenger.
Blackberry Messenger is exclusive to RIM devices and intended to provide a means of communication through the PIN system that RIM uses and hard codes into all of their devices. I am guessing that this update would only be available on the 8xxx, and 9xxx series, and would be included in all OS v. 5.x such as the 9700 that’s coming, 9630, and upcoming Storm 2.
